Our Mission
Luella’s Lodge is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support groups and non-traditional holistic therapies for families grieving the death of a child. Luella’s Lodge utilizes a beautiful log cabin on 10 peaceful and serene acres with a private lake and hiking & biking trails to provide a retreat where families can connect with one another through grief and healing.
Luella’s Lodge is located at 7397 E 1500 North Rd, in Oakwood Illinois (East-Central Illinois). We plan to build four additional private suites for families to stay and a large meeting room to accommodate such activities as group meetings and yoga sessions.
During the long-weekend stays for up to five families, we plan to provide programming that includes group sessions led by a bereaved parent and overseen by a counselor, group meals, yoga sessions, massage therapy, arts & crafts and outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, fishing and bird watching.
While we are raising funds and building the addition, Luella’s Lodge plans to host monthly support meetings for bereaved parents initially online and eventually in-person at the lodge. As we build, we also intend to allow single families to use the lodge and amenities as a retreat and getaway while on their own grief journey.

In our current COVID situation, we will constantly be monitoring the guidelines and recommendations provided by our federal, state and local agencies as to the appropriate way to gather and interact. We want to ensure everyone that we will put proper protocols and procedures into place to prioritize human health and safety.
